Alice by Jan Svankmajer is a stop motion adaptation of the famous story, Alice in Wonderland. I first came into contact with this film when I was little, around 5 or so. This was the only version of Alice in Wonderland I watched for a long time. I didn't see the Disney version till a friend showed it to me at their house. Because of this its seared into my memory and influenced my drawings and ideas. The film is unsettling, although I didn't quite key into this until I showed it to my flatmates (they were, understandably, a little horrified). The stop motion taxidermy and empty warehouse that was the setting create this eerie atmosphere that is really appealing to me. The film feels dreamlike, and a lot closer to Carroll's original novel than some other, more recent, adaptations. It will always have a place in my heart and I highly recommend giving it a watch if you haven't already.
